What will your child learn in our Boxing Class?

Our kids’ boxing classes are designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of boxing while emphasizing safety, discipline, and physical fitness. The content and curriculum may vary depending on the specific class, age group, and coach, but this is a general overview of what your child will  learn in our kids’ boxing classes:

  1. Basic Boxing Stance: Children will learn how to stand in the proper boxing stance, which includes keeping their feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and hands up to protect their face. They’ll also learn the importance of balance and stability.
  1. Footwork: Kids will be taught the fundamentals of boxing footwork, including how to move forward, backward, and sideways. Proper footwork is crucial for maintaining balance, evading punches, and positioning for offense.
  1. Punching Techniques:

Jab: Children will learn how to execute a jab, which is a quick, straight punch used for both offense and defense.

Cross: They will be taught the cross, a powerful straight punch that comes from the rear hand.

Hook: Kids will learn how to throw hooks, which are circular punches targeting the opponent’s head or body.

Uppercut: The uppercut is another punch they’ll be introduced to, often targeting the opponent’s chin or body.

  1. Defensive Skills:

Blocking: Children will learn how to block and parry punches to protect themselves.

Head Movement: They will be taught how to move their head to evade punches, known as “head slipping.”

Footwork for Defense: Kids will learn how to use their footwork to create angles and avoid punches.

  1. Combination Drills: Coaches will guide children in combining different punches and defensive moves into fluid combinations. This helps develop coordination and rhythm.
  1. Bag and Mitt Work: Kids will practice their punches and combinations on punching bags and focus mitts held by the coach. This allows them to apply what they’ve learned in a controlled environment.
  1. Sparring (Optional): Depending on the class and the child’s age and skill level, some kids may have the opportunity to participate in light sparring sessions with appropriate protective gear. Sparring is supervised closely and is used to apply learned skills in a practical setting.
  1. Conditioning and Fitness: Children will engage in various conditioning exercises to build strength, endurance, and agility. This can include jump rope, calisthenics, and cardiovascular workouts.
  1. Self-Discipline and Respect: A significant aspect of boxing classes for kids is instilling discipline and respect for themselves and others. They learn to follow instructions, maintain focus, and control their aggression.
  1. Safety and Sportsmanship: Our coaches emphasize safety rules and the importance of sportsmanship, teaching kids that boxing is a sport that requires respect for opponents and adherence to rules.
  1. Mental Toughness: Children will also develop mental toughness and resilience, learning how to handle pressure and overcome challenges both in and out of the ring.
  1. Nutrition and Health Education: Some classes incorporate discussions about nutrition and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to support their training and overall well-being.

It’s essential to note that our kids’ boxing classes prioritize safety and skill development over competition and combat. Our coaches aim to create a positive and encouraging environment where children can learn valuable life skills, gain confidence, and improve their physical fitness.
